3D TV Bluray Player

3D Update: 15th Jan 2010

The 3DTV industry is moving fast. In January 2010 the Bluray 3D specs have been finalized.

Blu-Ray 3D will need to store two views to create the 3D effects and by using a technique called Multiview Video Coding (MVC) the file size will only increase by 50%. Other encoding techniques have been seen double the file size. The 3D output is likely to be through HDMI 1.4 so that they can process 24 frames per second but firmware on systems like the PS3 will negate the need for this.

As well as being able to buy specific 3D-BlueRay players, advanced game consoles (like the Play Station 3) and the higher range of the current Blu-ray players should be able to cope with 3DTelevision with either software or firmware upgrades.

What will really make a difference to the consumer is backward compatibility and the fact the 3D BlueRay discs will display a 2D image in a normal Blu-ray player and TV combo.

There will be more TV manufacturers bringing out 3DTVs now that the 3D Blu-ray specs have been locked down so you either have to buy a new 3D TV or purchase a pair of 3D glasses as an accessory.
